STOP IT AMERICA, and other countries too

This morning I had to find a different way to the strip, once again, due to nothing less than selfishness and stupidity. The reason for this is another DUI (driving under the influence) crash with fatalities. In a city as small as Las Vegas, we have more than enough taxi’s, buses, and other sober driving alternatives that this should never happen.
More often than not, the person who dies is not the one drinking. The drunks are able to walk away unharmed, for the most part. Las Vegas does have very liberal laws but is one of the strictest in DUI enforcement, so I’ve read.
On the up side, over the last 5 years locals have been taking taxis more and more to go out – which is nice. It would be even better if hotels forced valet. or at least a key check, in to all guests parking. Valet isn’t allowed to give the keys to a person appearing to be intoxicated and if they had a key check in for the self park maybe it would help the overall DUI problem.
All I’m trying to say is STOP. If you can afford to go out, plan a way home that does not include driving. If you’re visiting- take a cab, walk, or take the damn bus.
So let me make the message I’m trying to get across clear.

STOP BEING STUPID AND SELFISH!

  1. I know what you mean, it’s just horrible, and especially where it is so easy to get a ride…

That’s terrible, and despite the fact that we hear about this all the time, and see the gruesome images in newspapers and on television, people continue to drink and drive. I wonder if this is because people have the mindset that ‘this’ can’t happen to them? I agree with you – if you can go out to play then get organized and designate a driver who WON’T drink, and who will be responsible for getting everyone home safely. I like the key check-in idea – maybe you should suggest it 🙂

    • DD’s work if you can trust something doesn’t get slipped in thier soda. I personally think just planing to use public transportation is the best. If you can afford a nigt out you can afford a ride. Vegas even has a service where a company will come out and drive you and your car home.

Yup, so does Montreal, but it’s only available for the month of December (I think, from 12/1 to 12/31. All you need to do is call them if you’ve had a few too many, and they will come get you and drive you and your car home. I’ve never had the need to use it, but I think it’s a great resource.

  3. DUIs are awful! And like you said, they’re so easy to avoid: call a cab, take a bus, etc. Those pics are scary.

    • The sad part is those cars are the non-drinking part of the crash. I hope our kids or The Jolies turn out to be smarter then the current set of adults we face today
